Mrs. Barbara Goodman
Food Service Director
Good nutrition plays an important role in the overall development of youngsters.  A comprehensive school lunch and breakfast program is available to all students in the District, featuring appetizing, nutritious and a varied selection of food choices.
The school lunch fulfills one-third of a child's requirements for calories, protein, vitamins and minerals; breakfast provides one-quarter.  Based upon federal dietary guidelines, menus offered to students reflect nutritional balance, variety and popular food choices.
Subsidies are available for families that are determined to be eligible for free and reduced lunch and breakfast programs.  A family application is sent home in August.  Applications are also available year-round in school offices and on the District website.  Eligibility guidelines are established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  Parents are strongly encouraged to complete the form, if eligible.  If your income changes at ANY time during the year, you are encouraged to apply.  Those students eligible for free and reduced lunch are automatically entitled to the same category for breakfast with the reduced price set at $.25.
The 2017-18 full-priced lunch for K-5 students is $2.10.  Middle and High School lunch is priced at $2.35.  A point of sale (POS) computerized cash register system has been implemented in all buildings.  Advantages of the POS include debited pre-pay program, confidentiality, faster lunch lines and improved record keeping for parents and cafeteria staff.
Families are encouraged to pre-pay for lunches and/or breakfast with this debit cash register system.  Checks should be made payable to Akron Central Food Services.  This is a pre-pay debit system, not a credit card system.
We also encourage parents to sign up for, an on-line payment service that provides a quick and easy way to add money to your student's meal account using a credit/debit card or electronic check.
All students must have a bar-coded picture ID card (provided by the school) for this system, whether paying cash or using a pre-pay procedure.
