AKRON, NEW YORK (May 31, 2015) – Akron Central Schools is pleased to recognize five seniors who have earned Scholar-Athlete All Western New York selection by Section VI of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.  This designation is reserved for seniors with an overall grade point average of 90 or above for seven semesters who are starters or important reserves on their respective athletic teams.

Three-time winner Emma Chubb of the tennis team and two-time winner Anna Pisano of the softball team are joined by Ryan Meek of the tennis team and Katherine Grant and Megan Kidder of the softball team for the All-Western New York Scholar Athlete selection this spring.  They will be featured with other scholar-athletes from Western New York in an upcoming edition of The Buffalo News and will receive a t-shirt recognizing this distinction, compliments of ADPRO Sports.

Additionally, ten students from Akron earned Honorable Mention as scholar-athlete in Section VI.  They include lacrosse player Jacob Burns, golfers Matthew Martin and Jonathan Nowakowski, tennis players Erica Papke and Morgan Wagner, Bailie Murty and Sarah Schultz from the softball team, Curtis Miller of the baseball team, and Allison Norton and Kylee Schultz from the girls track team.

“I am so proud of our students who have achieved academic greatness while devoting so much time outside of the classroom,” said Mr. Stephen Dimitroff, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.  “These student athletes set the standard for excellence for all others to achieve. Congratulations to these individuals for their exceptional athletic and academic achievements. Go Tigers!”

The spring sports for which Akron Schools participates include baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis and track and field.  While golf is a fall sport for ACS, the scholar athlete selections for that sport are made in the spring.  Nominations are submitted to Section VI with the student’s transcript, academic and athletic accomplishments, community service and other school activities.
