IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
SCHOLAR-ATHLETES FROM AKRON SCHOOLS ANNOUNCED
AKRON, NEW YORK (November 23,
2016) – Akron Central Schools is pleased to recognize fifteen seniors who have
earned Scholar-Athlete All Western New York selection by Section VI of the New
York State Public High School Athletic Association. This designation is reserved for seniors with
an overall grade point average of 90 or above for six semesters who are
starters or important reserves on their respective athletic teams.
The fall sports for which Akron Schools
participates include cross country, field hockey, football, golf, soccer and
volleyball. Nominations are submitted by
team coaches to Section VI with the student’s transcript, academic and athletic
accomplishments, community service and other school activities.
Cierra Janis, captain
of the varsity field hockey team, and Matthew
Jennings of the golf team, both won the top scholar-athlete
recognition. They will be featured with
other scholar-athletes from Western New York in an upcoming edition of The
Buffalo News and will receive a t-shirt recognizing this distinction,
compliments of ADPRO Sports.
Additionally, thirteen students from ACS
earned Honorable Mention as scholar-athletes in Section VI, including soccer
players Cody Blasko, Tyler Jones, Dustin Earle and Alexander Warren; field
hockey players Kayleah Aldrich, Lilyanna Berghorn, Heather Cummings and Sydney
Leeds; Cross Country runner Michael Swiniarski; golfer Zachary Lydell;
volleyball player Taylor Schlosser; and Christopher Borchert and Collin Frey of
the football team.

inspiration for their peers and adults alike.
