FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
AKRON JUNIOR SELECTED FOR US NAVAL ACADEMY SUMMER SEMINAR
AKRON, NEW YORK (April 11, 2017) - Laurel Foss, a junior at Akron High School, has been selected to attend the US Naval Academy Summer Seminar in June 2017.
The United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar is a highly selective process and offers the opportunity for rising high school seniors to visit the Naval Academy for one week during the summer. Students will experience all aspects of the Naval Academy including the academic program (engineering sessions) and midshipman life. Furthermore, students will receive an overview of Navy and Marine Corps career service options.
Laurel has an interest in Chemical Engineering and a career as an officer in the armed forces serving our country.
“Laurel is an amazing young woman who exemplifies the leadership and scholarly qualities Akron students possess,” said Mr. Joseph Lucenti, Akron High School Principal. “She is one of a very few from Akron who have reached this point in the admission process to the US Service Academies. It is certainly a tribute to her and her family and an honor for our entire school community. We are proud to call her one of our own.”
Laurel is the daughter of Jodi Hamernik and granddaughter of Audrey and Harry (late) Hamernik of Depew, NY.
